Zeleke Gessese: A Musical Journey from Ethiopia to the World

In the midst of political upheaval and civil unrest in Ethiopia during the early 1980s, one man’s journey emerged as a testament to the power of music and resilience. Zeleke Gessese, along with his brother and friends, embarked on a journey to the United States as refugees, seeking to pursue both his passion for music and his college education.

Upon arriving in the U.S., Zeleke found himself amidst a vibrant musical scene, where he soon forged one of the most successful partnerships in the industry. Collaborating with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, Zeleke and his band Dallol were signed to Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Records. Together, they released hit singles in Jamaica and the acclaimed album “Land of the Genesis,” produced by Mrs. Rita Marley.
